In the same year, 1997, Prof. Matsuzawa and his colleagues launched an initiative - planting trees to conserve the habitat of Bossou’s chimpanzees, in cooperation with local villagers and supported by the Japanese government, the Guinean government and the Japanese embassy in Guinea.
